What are muscle knots?
A muscle knot can be caused by an incorrect movement or an accident. Long-term incorrect posture or a lot of repetitive movements can also cause muscle knots. When muscles are not used for an extended period of time, such as after a cast, due to weak ankle or knee ligaments, or due to stress, muscle knots can also develop.
The pain ranges from a heavy, stabbing, nagging or pressing sensation to a numb or tingling sensation.
Treatment
By pricking a muscle knot, a local twitch response occurs: the muscle contracts briefly and then relaxes for a long time. This restores blood flow, removes waste products and restores oxygen and nutrients to muscles. Thus, the muscle can recover and pain decreases.
