Craniofacial therapy

CRAFTA, also known as craniofacial or craniomandibular therapy, is an examination and treatment method within manual therapy that focuses on pain and disorders in the area of the head, jaw, neck and neck. In addition, the CRAFTA therapist has specific knowledge of disorders of the skull.

What is craniofacial therapy?

Craniofacial therapy (CRAFTA) is performed by specialized manual therapists and focuses on disorders of the head, neck, jaw and neck. We often collaborate with dentist, pediatrician, orthodontist or neurologist.

With chronic muscle strain or injury, adhesions regularly develop in muscles, tendons and joints. These can impede blood flow and lead to pain and inflammation. Craniofacial therapy is a commonly used approach for jaw-related complaints.

Research

During the first appointment, we do a comprehensive examination of jaw joint, skull and relevant nerves in the facial area. We identify disturbances in the head and neck area and look for underlying causes. We then conduct an interrogative interview and establish a personalized treatment plan to help you recover quickly and in a focused manner.

Treatment

A CRAFTA treatment consists of manual techniques in the head and neck, supplemented by guidance in daily activities. You receive targeted information, advice and a customized exercise program with simple exercises you can apply at home.

For what complaints is craniofacial therapy appropriate?

  • Headache complaints due to disorders of the neck, jaw, head and neck
  • Jaw pain, chewing disorders, swallowing problems, grinding or clenching
  • Dental and facial pain, occlusion disorders (wrong bite)
  • Dizziness, balance disorders or tinnitus
  • Difficulty opening the mouth

Referral and reimbursement

No referral is required for craniofacial therapy. The treatment is reimbursed from the supplementary insurance as physiotherapy. Without supplementary insurance you can find the costs on the rates page.
